I got interested in massage therapy as a healing art, from personal experience. I had a soft tissue back injury that was resistant to healing through all the traditional methods I received from my Drs, Physical Therapists, and my own personal drive to heal myself through methods I learned from nursing school. I even tried Acupuncture but that did not work for me either (although it may work for others)!
As a last resort I decided to try massage therapy, and my Dr agreed, saying "It can't hurt!" So off I went with prescription in hand to seek out my last chance at some relief from the pain. I found just the right therapist for me and my back injury. I have to say, I was quite nervous never having received a massage in my life before this point.
I started out seeing her 2-3 times a month and saw results quickly. Within 6 months I was off all pain medication and living a more active lifestyle with only intermittent pain. In one year I was virtually pain free and after 2 years of maintenance I felt like a whole new person. To this day, I have never had any more pain from that injury. This was amazing! Why did my doctor not refer me to massage earlier??
As a nurse I am used to seeing people suffering and want to help in any way I can, but as a nurse, I could never do what my massage therapist did for me. I was hooked, I wanted to be able to help people in this form of bodywork as well. Many years later after finally coming off of a nightshift work schedule to dayshift, I was able to find time to go to massage school and fulfill that dream from so long ago.
So here I am! I am almost a year out of school and so excited to finally start my own practice. I want to be able to help others along their journey of health. Whether that means relaxation massage, occasional aches and pains massage, or actual treatment of injury massage. Even if you feel whole and healthy already, your tissues and your mind/soul can always benefit from massage. I wholeheartedly believe that everyone (that means you!) can benefit in any little way from massage.
I am also very excited to learn new modalities and incorporate those into my practice. I am interested in Thai massage, cupping, and hot stone massage for starters. Once I learn these techniques I will want bodies to use them on for experience and that means I am likely to reduce my rate for a massage or 2 for my clients open to being a practice body.
If my story resounds with you at all or are just looking for a good client-centered massage, please contact me to schedule an appointment.
Namaste!
